Plus: PayPal Confirms PPWC Breach, Anthropic Jolts IBM Stock

Good Morning, Early Adopters!

Everything is being compressed—time, risk, matter, capital.

Stargate JV Stalls

TL;DR: A report from The Information reveals that the $500 billion Stargate joint venture between OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank has yet to hire staff or begin building OpenAI’s data centers. Plans to secure 10 gigawatts of AI compute by 2025 have slipped amid disputes over control, financing resistance, and prolonged negotiations in Tokyo, prompting OpenAI to quietly pause its own data center ambitions.

PayPal Confirms PPWC Breach

TL;DR: PayPal confirmed a data breach affecting PayPal Working Capital loan applicants after a hacker accessed systems from July to December 2025. Around 100 customers had personal data exposed—including Social Security numbers—and some saw unauthorized transactions, later refunded. Passwords were reset, two years of credit monitoring offered, and PayPal says the exposure stemmed from a code error, not a full system compromise.

Anthropic Jolts IBM Stock

TL;DR: IBM shares plunged 13% after Anthropic said its Claude Code tool can modernize legacy COBOL systems, a core IBM mainframe business. Anthropic argued AI can map dependencies and surface risks in codebases that once took months to analyze, flipping the economics of legacy upgrades. The selloff deepened IBM’s 2026 losses to over 24% year to date.

Queensland’s Prehistoric Energy Bet

TL;DR: Australia is exploring whether the ancient Adavale Basin in outback Queensland can become a massive clean energy store. A $31 million drilling program by Geoscience Australia found thick Boree Salt layers suitable for creating underground caverns to store hydrogen or compressed air, each store 6,000 tonnes of hydrogen, potentially delivering grid-scale energy comparable to dozens of large batteries.

EXESS Shrinks Chemistry Timelines

TL;DR: Quantum chemistry software startup QDX has unveiled EXESS, a quantum chemistry engine that performs over a quintillion calculations per second, reducing simulations of large molecular reactions from weeks to minutes. Running on conventional hardware, the system uses parallel processing and molecular fragmentation to dramatically accelerate drug discovery, protein analysis, and advanced materials research.

ASML Lifts EUV Output

TL;DR: ASML Holding unveiled a major advance in its extreme ultraviolet lithography systems, boosting light source power from 600 watts to 1,000 watts. The upgrade could raise machine throughput from 220 to 330 wafers per hour by 2030, enabling up to 50% more chips while lowering costs.

Tesla Fights FSD Label

TL;DR: Tesla sued the California Department of Motor Vehicles to overturn a ruling that labeled it a false advertiser over its use of “Autopilot” and “Full Self-Driving.” The DMV had ordered marketing changes but stopped short of suspending licenses. Tesla argues the finding was baseless.

Uber Expands Into Parking

TL;DR: Uber said it will acquire SpotHero for an undisclosed sum, integrating parking reservations into its app for events, venues, and airports. SpotHero operates in over 400 cities with 13,000 locations. The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2026.
