⛵ MIT Prints Working Motor

Plus: Atom-Thin Circuit, FSD Reads Traffic Gestures

Good Morning, Early Adopters!

We are watching intelligence migrate into movement, chemistry, orbit, litigation, and fabrication — all at once.

MIT Prints Working Motor in Hours

TL;DR: MIT researchers developed a multimaterial 3D-printing platform that can fabricate a fully functional electric motor in a single build, producing a working linear motor in about three hours. Using conductive, magnetic, and structural materials on one modified extrusion system, the approach could enable on-site motor manufacturing, reduce downtime, and reshape distributed electronics production.

Atom-Thin Circuit Endures Centuries

TL;DR: Published in Nature, researchers at Fudan University unveiled an atom-thin molybdenum disulfide circuit built on a 4-inch wafer that withstands extreme radiation. After intense gamma tests and nine months in orbit, it showed no degradation. Models suggest it could operate over 270 years in harsh space, potentially slashing satellite shielding weight and launch costs.

Tesla FSD Reads Traffic Gestures

TL;DR: Elon Musk said Tesla’s Full Self-Driving can now recognize and respond to hand signals from traffic control personnel. In a Netherlands demo, FSD Supervised paused in a narrow construction lane, detected a traffic controller standing between cones, and proceeded only after being waved through. The test comes as Dutch regulators review Tesla’s exemption application for broader approval.

Tofu-Brine Battery Breakthrough

TL;DR: Researchers at City University of Hong Kong and Southern University of Science and Technology unveiled a neutral, water-based “tofu brine” battery using organic electrodes and non-toxic electrolytes. The system reportedly endures over 120,000 charge cycles—far beyond lithium-ion’s typical 1,000–3,000—while remaining non-flammable and environmentally safer.

Artemis II Faces Fresh Setback

TL;DR: NASA’s Artemis II mission was thrown into uncertainty after engineers detected an overnight interruption in helium flow to the Space Launch System’s upper stage, a critical component for sending the Orion capsule into proper orbit. The problem, unrelated to earlier hydrogen leaks, may require repairs at Kennedy Space Center and is expected to disrupt the planned March 6 crewed launch.

Google Sued Over Scraping Fight

TL;DR: Google sued web scraping company SerpApi in December, accusing it of illegally copying search results and bypassing its SearchGuard protections. In a motion to dismiss, SerpApi argues Google holds no copyright over search results and calls Google “the largest scraper on the planet,” claiming it merely does what Google does—automatically scraping public web data at scale.

$30K Cybercab Hype

TL;DR: Tesla supporter Nic Cruz Patane argued that a roughly $30,000 Cybercab would be far safer than human drivers, cost as little as $0.20 per mile, and let owners sleep, work, run errands, or even earn passive income via the Robotaxi fleet.

Supreme Court Cuts Apple’s Tariff Bill

TL;DR: The U.S. Supreme Court struck down much of former President Donald Trump’s tariff policy, potentially easing Apple’s $3.3 billion tariff burden. The ruling could let Apple shift more U.S.-bound production back to China, lower costs, and protect margins. However, uncertainty remains over refunds, new temporary tariffs, and whether CEO Tim Cook will seek to recover past payments.
